By incorporating a host of innovative environmental sustainable design features, The City of Whyalla and EnvironArc Design have ensured that this new community resource is appropriate for a “greener” future. In 2009 the District Council of Coober Pedy commissioned EnvironArc Design Pty Ltd to undertake the design process for construction of the new terminal with a budget of $1.3m The design solution provides a family house having large formal and informal living spaces directly linked to a private alfresco area and providing separation of living and sleeping areas all within a compact footprint. When the local Council decided to upgrade the facility, they went to well-known architectural firm EnvironArc Design for ideas on how to make it environmentally friendly, long lasting and innovative.
